The Bower is quietly situated in the village of Birchanger, with origins believed to date back to the 16th century. The oldest part of the building is timber framed with rendered, colour washed elevations under a tiled roof, although there have been subsequent Victorian extensions and later alterations which together have created a house of character.
Notable features include a large hallway, sitting room with open fireplace and exposed timbers and a recently fitted kitchen which adjoins a generously proportioned dining room. There is one ground floor bedroom with an en suite shower room and four first floor bedrooms served by a dressing room, shower room and family bathroom. The bath and shower rooms have all been re-fitted to a high standard. There is a large landing which is presently used partially as a study.
Outside, to the front of the property a gravelled driveway provides parking for three to four cars and a single garage. Behind the house is a well established and private garden, two small outbuildings, a number of seating areas, coniferous and deciduous trees and a wide variety of shrubs. In a sheltered part of the garden there is a heated pool with bamboo and tropical plants at one end and evergreen planting at the other. The grounds in total amount to just over a quarter of an acre.
