BROADFIELD HALL is an exceptional family house built in 1938/39 of brick elevations under a tiled roof. The main house is particularly spacious and well appointed. It benefits from well proportioned rooms that face south and overlook the gardens and paddock beyond. Broadfield Hall is approached over a brick paved courtyard and facing the property is a magnificent William & Mary coach house designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor. This now comprises three Victorian stables, garaging and storage on the ground floor and a grooms flat above.Within the grounds is a picturesque thatched cottage. The gardens and grounds extend to about 15 acres and include well maintained lawns, rose gardens, lake and paddock.
Historical Note: Broadfield Hall was the fourth house to stand on the site since 1200. Over the centuries, Broadfield Hall has had many interesting occupants ? a Norman Knight in the 13th century, The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in the 17th Century and for 20 years until 1986 the Hall was owned by their Royal Highnesses Prince Georg and Princess Anne of Denmark (Princess Anne was the Queen Mothers niece, Anne Bowes Lyon and became a princess on her marriage to Prince Georg). The house was then purchased from Princess Anne's children, Lady Elizabeth Anson and Lord Patrick Lichfield. Until his death, Prince Georg was the Danish Military Attaché in London. A more detailed history of Broadfield Hall can be found in 'Portrait of an English Country Squire' based on the house's account book of James Foraster of Broadfield Hall 1689 ? 1696.
