Description

Victoria House is an imposing, well proportioned townhouse constructed of painted brick elevations with sash windows beneath a tiled roof. The house is believed to date from the late 19th Century and has characterful accommodation arranged over three principal floors extending to around 300 sqm (3234 sqft). Of particular note internally is the flexibility of the house together with the ready access to outside space. There is a delightful internal central courtyard with murals to the walls with
two of the principal rooms radiating off. There is a large vaulted kitchen/breakfast room with a four oven aga, access to the internal and external courtyard gardens and a spiral staircase leading up to a mezzanine family room which also has French doors leading onto a balcony overlooking the central courtyard. The entrance hallway has heavy flagstone paving and an open tread timber staircase with glazed walls also overlooking the courtyard.

At first floor level are 5 to 7 bedrooms including an elegant second floor master bedroom which occupies the full width of the property. There is access onto three timber balconies, all of which overhang the courtyard below. The remarkable accommodation is shown in more detail in the attached floorplans.

Outside
From Earl Street (the residential road to the north of Victoria Street) there is access via a shared driveway to the parking and courtyard garden to the property. A remote controlled gate slides back to reveal parking for three medium sized cars. Adjacent to this area is a pretty and private paved courtyard with raised planters and ample space for sitting outside. There is a gated entrance to the front which leads to a shared passageway leading back to Victoria Street.

Historical Note
Victoria House was formerly owned by HRH The Duke of Gloucester, he bought the property in July 1967 for the handsome sum of ?8,750. The Duke of Gloucester is currently 18th in line to the throne and studied at Magdalene College from 1963, after a year of practical work he returned to Cambridge in 1967 and purchased Victoria House and studied architecture.
