Description
The White House is a most attractive Grade II listed property dating from the 18th Century with later Georgian additions in the early 19th Century. The house retains some good period detail with fine sash windows, good marble fireplaces and light and well proportioned rooms, typical of the period. The current owners acquired the house in 1987 and a considerable restoration and refurbishment was carried out at the time, including the creation of an indoor swimming pool in 1991 - 1992. This was cleverly incorporated into existing traditional brick and flint outbuildings attached to and accessible through the rear of the house. A hard tennis court was also laid in the grounds.
The house has well-arranged accommodation, as can be seen from the floor plans, with the three main reception rooms, plus the large kitchen/breakfast room with an AGA all leading off the central entrance hall. There is a further snug/sitting room and games room and on the first floor a master bedroom with adjoining bathroom, 6 further bedrooms and 2 further bathrooms. The conservatory opens onto the garden and can be used in most seasons.
The outbuildings, attached to the north of the house, contain the heated swimming pool with shower cubicle and Jetstream. There is also a separate annexe with a living area, small kitchen and cloak/shower room, situated above the double garage.
The house is situated in mature well-stocked gardens and grounds containing some fine mature trees. In all extending to 1.5 acres (est).
Outside / Gardens and Grounds The house is approached from the south east by a gravelled drive which passes the south front of the house and leads to a large gravelled turning and parking area situated to the west of the house. The garaging and outbuildings are situated to the north west.
The house is situated in mature gardens and grounds which are arranged as follows. Immediately to the south of the house there is an area of lawned garden and the property is well screened from the village's road by mature trees including yew, acacia and beech. Situated to the west of the house there is a further extensive area of lawned garden bounded by a fine brick and flint wall. The garden has well stocked mixed shrub borders and mixed shrubberies and, continuing to the north, there is a large area of garden put down to grass with an area of orchard and various mature trees including beech, oak and flowering cherry. Divided from this area by a mature beech hedge there is a hard tennis court which is situated to the north east of the house. There is a further gravelled access drive situated to the east of the house which also leads to the swimming pool and changing room area.
Services Mains water, mains electricity, mains gas, mains drainage, mains gas-fired central heating and 2 oven AGA.
