Situation

North Walsham is a popular market town in North Norfolk. It has good road and rail links with a local station linking to the coast at Sheringham and Norwich with connecting onward trains to London Liverpool Street. The coast at Mundesley is 4 miles renowned for its sandy beaches.

Description

Aylsham House is an imposing detached family house, prominently situated close to the centre of North Walsham. The oldest part of the property was built in the late 17th century during the time of William and Mary, for the de Lubeck family. The de Lubecks were Flemish Merchants at the time when North Walsham was an important centre for the wool trade and they exported - Walsham' and also - Worstead' wools which were produced in this region. Aylsham House is listed Grade II* is described in Pevsner's Norfolk volume of the Buildings of England as - a handsome early Georgian brick house, 5 bays and 2 storeys with giant angle pilasters and a doorway with an open pediment on attached unfluted Ionic columns'. The building stands as one of Norfolk's best examples of a town house from the 18th century. The property was occupied for many years by the town's doctors, and is still know by many locals as the doctor's house.

The property has extensive and well arranged accommodation, as can be seen from the floor plans with 3-4 reception rooms, 8 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, shower room and a separate self-contained annexe. Although the property is close to the town centre it has useful off-street parking together with outbuildings and garaging and a private and secluded largely walled garden.

The house has an interesting history and has been used by the current owners since 1988 as a family house, restaurant and residential care home. However the property still retains much period detail including fine open fireplaces and good sash windows, many of them shuttered. The property would therefore be suitable for a variety of uses subject to the necessary planning consents.

Outside
To the south of the house there is an attractive area of lawned garden, partly walled with a high brick wall and further protected by conifers and mature trees, offering a high degree of privacy. At the rear of the garden approached through a gate there is extra parking for further cars. To the north of the house there is a range of outbuildings for storage and garaging with the main vehicular access from the town street. In all 0.30 of an acre (est).
